Tips & Rules

Tips on what to pack and bring with you;

  • Books to read and relax. The lodge is a peaceful place, with beautiful sounds of nature. Guests are requested not to make too much noise as sound travels very well and quickly through the bush. Please respect the animals and other guests of the park.
  • Spray & lotions. Toad tree Lodge is situated in a low risk malaria area, but it is still a good idea to spray anti bug repellents and rub on lotions  early in the morning and at sunset, and when you go walking through the bush. Of course sun creams and hats are a real must.
  • Light clothing, costume & a rain jacket for the summer months and winter days. Warm clothing for winter mornings and evenings and a warm jacket for game drives.
  • Good, comfortable walking shoes and open slops/sandals. Kuleni Game Park is a walking only reserve, so guests are not allowed to drive around the park unless en-route to or from the lodge.
  • SA Rands are the only cash currency accepted in the area, and most formal establishments accept credit cards. There are no payment or cash withdrawal facilities at the lodge.
  • The area often suffers from power cuts, so bring along your own torch, although the lodges are equipped with torches and re-chargeable lamps. Please be careful with open flames.
  • Guests are requested not to smoke inside the lodges, or throw their cigarette butts onto the ground.
  • Your own binoculars and cameras
  • All you own food and drinks, extra drinking water. The nearby town of Hluhluwe has supermarkets, bottle stores, pharmacies, petrol stations and a good local butchery.
  • The lodges are serviced daily by our house keeper, so you do not have to do your own washing up, unless you choose to do so.
  • The lodge does not provide wood, so it is a good idea to bring your own fire lighters and wood/charcoal for the braai/barbeque. Guests are not allowed to make huge bonfires as the lodges and surrounding bush can catch alight very easily.
  • Bring your personal cell phone with you, and purchase a local SIM card and starter pack on arrival in South Africa.
  • Should you experience any problems or have any questions, please go to the park reception and ask them to contact the park manager.
  • Check-out time is 10h00, and check-in time after 14h00.
  • The park gates open at 04h00 and close at 22h00 for security reasons. If you are out and plan to return after 22h00, please contact the park manager to request special arrangements.
  • No feeding of any animals please!
  • No pets allowed!
